“Lord, please send me a Christian friend, and if she could speak English, it would be perfect!”

My friend, Esther

My friend, Esther, has been an answer to prayer. We became friends in a way that only God could have planned. When we had the mission group stay with us last summer, the pastor of the church wanted a translator for the sermon on Sunday. The person he had planned on didn’t work out, so he found Esther and asked her to do it. She did a wonderful job, and we met afterwords. We exchanged Facebook names, and found each other online. In the weeks that followed, we began to message on and off. The more we talked, the more we realized we had a lot in common. We are both in Salvadorean-American marriages. We are both away from our families and friends. Both of us have spent months at a time apart from our husbands, and we both ended up here, in El Salvador. (But sorta wish we were in America!) It wasn’t very long before we got together and got to know each other even more. We have both had some hard times, and we know the future won’t be easy, but we both have hope for our future. We have hope, because we know God will be with us every step of the way. There is a reason that God put her and I, here at the same time, we are sure of that. Maybe He knew we both needed a friend we could count on! I’m so thankful that God answered my prayer, and sent me a Christian friend, and that He didn’t laugh when I said, “And Lord, if she could speak English, it would be perfect!”
